Asset Liability Management

National Banking Institute (NBI) has organized one day conference on August 6, 2015 on Asset Liability Management in Kathmandu. The purpose of the conference was to highlight the increasing gap of assets and liability management and mitigation of market risk. The conference was attended by banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, investment banks, MFIs, pension funds etc.  Total number of participants were 103.

In the welcome speech, Dr. Binod Atreya, Director, NBI and Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank mentioned that the institute main motto is to develop qualified human capital in financial sector and provide knowledge in various areas of banking. This program is one of the actions to meet the objective.

Likewise, Mr. Shovan Dev Pant, Chairman, NBI highlighted on various aspects of risk that financial institutions has been currently facing. He further said that assets liability management and managing market risk have been a big challenge to financial institutions.

The conference was facilitated by international experts Mr. Rajinder Kumar, Chief General Manager, Dept. of Banking Regulation, Reserve Bank of India. Mr. Ripujit Chaudhari, Head – Market Risk, ICICI Bank Ltd. and Mr. K. Mohan Bhaktha, Executive Director, Weizmann Forex Ltd.

A panel discussion was also conducted comprising of Mr. Bhuwan Kumar Dahal, Chief Executive Officer, Sanima Bank Ltd. and Mr. Parashuram K. Chhetri, Banking Experts along with above international experts. Many queries of the participants were addressed in this discussion.

The conference was concluded by Mr. Sanjib Subba, CEO of NBI thanking all the participants for their presence and assuring that the conference would be beneficial in gaining broad knowledge of asset liability management and market risk in an international level.
